There are many music academies that teach music from all the different aspects; some are geared in principle to classical music, others focus more on popular music. Some focus on performance, others on composition. We've gathered some tips together to help you choose the framework that is most appropriate for you.
Music can be studied in private lessons, in workshops, in different music centres or in a music academy. The full music academic program usually lasts for between three to four years, awarding the student with a degree in musicology which can be helpful for a career in specific areas of music. Performing music (singing and playing various instruments), composition and arrangement, teaching music and various technical aspects (sound, recording and computerized editing for example) are a few of these areas.
In a music academy, one can find studies in pop and jazz music, where popular light music is the focus - here all the songs that can be heard on the radio are studied. A music academy can specialize in performing classical and operatic composition and arrangement, whether for operas that were written in classical periods or for popular concerts; there are music academies that teach composition and conducting, and also musical arrangement for the cinema and stage. Also there are specific workshops that deal with ethnic musicology, courses for DJs, workshops for different instruments and many more.
The professional music academy's aim is to offer the students a wide base for understanding and analyzing music while also learning how to create and perform. The music studies include the history of music, theory, analysis of various works, development of listening, ethnic musicology, counterpoint, composition and much, much more. Parts of the syllabus include lessons on how to perform on stage.
Choosing a Music Academy
A full syllabus, on the other hand, is appropriate for those with a musical background, although there are schools that accept newcomers to the field, especially in the area of popular music.
