Runways and Catwalk Modelling
Runway modelling, the art of modellingin a fashion show, is named after the narrow elevated path that the clothes are shown on. Another name for runway is catwalk, because of the feline-way that runway models are taught to walk.

Not all models can be runway models. Usually, height is exceptionally important. If a photographic model is expected to be at least 5"7 tall, a runway model might need to be minimum 5' 8''. It is a known fact that many famous models that lead huge campaigns cannot be runway models because they just aren't tall enough.

Because a lot of the modelling is based on swim wear and other very revealing clothing, the runway model must have a perfect body. Straight back, correct proportions, a lithesome and strong walk are imperative. The height, correct body structure and on-stage presence are much more important to a runway model than are facial features. This is why some of the runway models are not accepted as face models for advertising in magazines.

If you want to become a runway model, work on your posture. Since runway modelling is done before a live audience, there is no option for Photoshop or additional takes before a photographer. In addition, runway models must learn to walk in very high heels and look as if they enjoy it!

In recent years, runway models have become skinner than ever before. Size 34 has become the average size and many fashion designers cater to that size only. Even Heidi Klum, one of the world's top models, is considered plump relative to other runway models. Because of the increasing consciousness as to eating disorders, there is a wide public demand for models to be with more meat on their bones. Models under a certain body mass with relation to height and weight are considered medically unfit.

The advise here to you, as potential runway model is to remember that health comes first consult with a doctor and nutritionist about your diet.

Furthermore as a runway model to be, it is imperative that you get in shape, hit the gym, eat correctly, take catwalk walking lessons and soon you will be able to "walk the walk' proudly with the desired physique.
