A Double at Public Events
A famous actor's "Double" may appear at festivals or different gatherings that are related to the cinema, television or other entertainment venues. For instance, at a convention about science fiction, or at a debut of a new "Star Trek" movie, doubles may appear and the general public will be allowed to take photos with 'the star'.
Doubles in Advertisements
Especially in advertisements, look alike are used a lot. When a particular product is to be sold with the cameo of a famous actor, a double is used to avoid paying the enormous sums that such an actor would require. Someone who looks similar to a celebrity would appear in situations that are related to the entertainment world, or to the celebrity himself. The audience 'gets the hint' and identifies the celebrity without having his name actually mentioned. In this way the advertisement can present a scene showing a red carpet, including stars getting out of a limousine, by using a double for every famous star they wish to use.
Look-alikes in Movies and Television Shows
Cameo shots of famous actors are a popular commodity in films, and here the use of doubles isn't so widespread. But in low-budget films, when an actor is faced with doing something he might not be happy with, or when the character isn't really that important to the story, doubles are quite often used to portray the more famous celebrity actors. In film as well as in television, it isn't uncommon to find parodies on double actors. For instance, in the movie "Ocean 12", Julia Roberts plays a double of....Julia Roberts.
How to find work as an Actors Double
If you've decided that you look just like someone who needs a double and you want to make a career out of being his double, go to an acting agency and enroll as a double. It's pretty sure that they will ask for two photos. Just as for every other acting job, we suggest that you research the acting agencies before signing anything, don't be lured into paying any large fees to the agency for the production of a portfolio. If there is a demand for a double with your face, they will invite you to an audition.
