It's only natural to check celebrities resumes and try to learn from their successes or mistakes. Let's see what some celebs did on their way to fame...

If you're thinking of having a career in acting, modelling or singing, you probably think to yourself sometimes: If I really want to make it big, where should I start? Where did all the big stars start their career, and how did they get discovered? Did they go to the 'right' agency, learn at the 'best' academy or was it just plain luck?

The answers to these questions change from one celebrity to the other. Some celebrities always knew what they wanted to become: Beyonce formed her first band at the age of nine, and one David McDonald knew at the age of 4 that he wants to be an actor on the telly, he even chose his character - Doctor Who. 30 years later, this little boy is now better known as David Tennant, the tenth Doctor Who.

On the other hand, some celebs had totally different plans: As a teenager, Angelina Jolie's dream was to become a funeral director, and Tom Cruise wanted to become a priest. Johnny Depp sold pens over the phone, just as Jerry Seinfeld sold light-bulbs. Before his big break on Thelma & Louise, Brad Pitt was a mascot for a restaurant called “El Pollo Loco”, and the star-to-be stood in the street in a chicken costume.

In other examples, celebs knew what they wanted to be but had to start small. Kate Winslet's first gig was in a cereal commercial. Naomi Campbell made her first appearance in a music video for Bob Marley, and Elton John started as a pianist in a pub.

If there is one conclusion from all of the above, it is this: every celebrity had to start somewhere, and usually it was somewhere simple. The difference between those who made it and those who didn't, besides talent, is that they were more persistent and not too picky. So if you want to become a star, take every job offered and have faith in yourself. Who knows, maybe some day people will talk about your current job or your next gig and be surprised a star like you started there.
