Every actor knows what it feels like to sit and wait for his agent to call. Unfortunately every casting opportunity starts with the agent and there's just no other alternative then to sign up in an acting agency in order to succeed in the show business.

Acting Agencies

Acting Agencies
The actor's agent is the connexion between the producers, the casting crew and the actor himself. That is the reason why every actor needs an agent in order to participate in the acting industry. Acting agencies specialise in representing professional actors in front of production companies including cinema, television and the theatre.
The acting agency is headed by an agent manager and the lowest rung is occupied by the scouts and bookers. The bookers organise auditions and try to market the actors from the pool of the agency. The scouts are out looking for new talented actors at all the various venues - in theatres and all the way to school productions. They're out looking for the new stars of the future. The agency's profits come directly from the actor's incoming salary, so it is in the agent's best interest to find profitable work for his actor-client.

When looking for an acting agency to represent you, it is highly advised to checkup all the alternatives available. There are acting agencies that specialise in representing professional, experienced actors and there are others who accept new actors with no acting experience.

Is a large, established acting agency better than a small, more personal agency? The largest disadvantage to a large acting agency is that it represents many actors, some might even be your competitors, including successful and famous actors. It will be those actors that the agency is most interested in marketing for, since they will earn the largest salary so that the agency will profit most from them. On the other hand, you must remember that the large acting agencies have the most and best contacts in the acting industry and they have a leg-up in all the better audition opportunities.

The smaller agencies share an interest in marketing beginner actors, but it may be that their information regarding auditions is limited. In addition, it's hard to know whether a smaller acting agency is even reputable and honest. Make sure you find out about acceptance details, visit their Website, read about other actors they represent and even try to locate them in order to consult.

The first step is to take your portfolio, your album of photos that were taken by a professional photographer and functions as your calling-card in the entertainment industry.

Now all that is left, is to wait for your agent to send you to an audition, get the part and get ready for stardom!
